Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris, born on the 20th of October, 1964, is an American politician and lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female elected vice president and is also the highest-ranking female officer in American history. As a part of the Democratic Party, she previously was the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017 and was the state's attorney general from 2011 to 2017 and as a United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Her professional career started with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected as the city's district attorney. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010, and reelected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States senator from California from 2017 to 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Martinez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the second African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. She was a senator who worked for healthcare reform and federal de-scheduling cannabis. The path to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally recognized.
